Stuff no one tells you: friends

To the current/future traveler,

You are embarking on a journey of a lifetime. As you downsize your life into the smallest of spaces and live in a (uncomfortable? unfamiliar?) way, love it. Live it. And write home. Post pictures with reckless abandon. Because those that love you and care about you want to know what you are doing. Sure they might only skim your blog, glimpsing at the photos when they should be working, wishing they were there with you. Or there instead of you.

Hopefully they are happy enough and supportive enough with your “alternative” lifestyle to appreciate that even though you are off expanding your mind in ways pictures and blogs can’t relate, you are still their friend. Through thick and thin, even when you aren’t physically by their side. And emails and texts and communications and, let’s be honest, blog posts are created to make everyone feel connected.

So when the emails stop and communications fail, remember: it is not your fault! You have done nothing wrong! Just because you have chosen to live your life differently, do not feel bad. Your true friends will always be there for you. And, unfortunately, those not-so-true will slip away.

Try try try your hardest but some will be too bitter/jealous/frustrated to maintain the quality friendship that once was. Distance should make the heart grow fonder but sometimes, out of sight, out of mind is the anthem some prefer to sing.

Head high. Life will go on. And so will you, meeting interesting people and seeing unbelievable sites. And maybe, just maybe, the faithful will be there when you return to (a more normal) reality to lend a shoulder when readjusting seems as foreign as the last country you were in, as though not a day apart has past.

To friends of the current/future traveler,

We love you. We’ve always loved you. Distance makes us miss you more and we wish you were with us experiencing all these amazing people, places and things. That’s why we post these beautiful pictures and blog so you can feel like you are experiencing these events with us.

We are not dead, just living with far less means of communication that we ever had before. The emails may not be as frequent, but our thoughts and hearts are forever with you as you buy your first house, have your first or second or third baby, get engaged, celebrate your marriage, change jobs, move and on and on.

So please respond to our emails. And for the love of everything that’s holy, download Skype and whatsapp.

That is all.

-The Weary Traveler

Your adventure emails & pics will be missed…what a great journey you both had. Although we didnt know you other then bringing you cookies as the blue bus parked across the street from our house on southhill in Daly City, CA sparked our curiosity..we wish you both well in the next chapter in your lives.
    Be well…
